Michael Craig-Martin: Violin Plates (Pink)
A principal figure of British conceptual art, Michael Craig-Martin probes the relationship between objects and images, harnessing the human capacity to imagine absent forms through symbols and pictures.
In 2013 Craig-Martin was invited to design that year’s program cover for Glyndebourne, the opera house in East Sussex, England. To accompany this project, he created a limited-edition set of plates. Craig-Martin then worked with Plinth in 2016 to produce Violin Plates (Pink), an unlimited edition based on the 2013 set. The three plates feature Craig-Martin’s image of a violin that can be reassembled when the plates are arranged for display.
