Howard Hodgkin Home: Souvenir Plate Set
This set of two porcelain plates produced by Howard Hodgkin Home features different details from the artist’s 1981 screen print Souvenir, which incorporates a wide variety of marks—including some made directly by the artist’s own hand—in five different shades of black. Loosely suggestive of an interior space, the image hints at the passage of time through shapes that appear to recede into the background. In 1986, Hodgkin was invited to design a plate for Luciana Martinez de la Rosa’s Artplate series; the Souvenir set was inspired by that object’s combination of practicality and aesthetics.
Howard Hodgkin Home is an initiative to celebrate Hodgkin’s work and to help fund the ambitions of the Howard Hodgkin Legacy Trust. Produced to the standards of hotel ware, the plates are dishwasher safe and designed to withstand many years of use.
