Howard Hodgkin: Indian Leaves
Howard Hodgkin produced the lithograph Indian Leaves in 1982 on the occasion of his exhibition of the same title at Tate, London, in the same year. After it was decided that the print would not be used for a proposed limited-edition version of the exhibition catalogue, it remained unpublished. Forty-two years later, the Howard Hodgkin Estate stamped, numbered, and dated the edition and made it available through select cultural organizations. Hodgkin characterized the Tate exhibition’s subject as a simple anthology of things he had observed in India, including a train crossing a distant landscape and vistas of the sky. Printed in blue, red, and yellow from three aluminum plates on Japanese Gampi Torinoko paper, the lithograph is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the Trustees of the Howard Hodgkin Legacy Trust.
