Howard Hodgkin: In the Pink
This book was published on the occasion of Howard Hodgkin: In the Pink at Gagosian, Hong Kong, the artist’s first exhibition in Hong Kong.
With paint strokes of varying depth and vigor, Hodgkin’s works, completed by 2014 and 2016, convey fleeting private moments and intense recollections. The painting Now (2015–16) embodies an interchange between light and dark, time and feeling, while Always Afternoon (2016) transforms a temporal memory into an experience of pure and exuberant color. Each painting creates a pocket of time and silence, demonstrating afresh the expressiveness, candor, and mastery of a painter in his prime.
Alongside reproductions of the exhibited works, the bilingual (English/Chinese) publication features a text by James Lawrence and recent photography of the artist’s studio.
