Pablo Picasso: Dancer and Musician Plate
This square plate with a platinum border featuring Pablo Picasso’s Joueur de flûte, la danse du berger (1959) was handmade in porcelain by a team of skilled ceramists at Galerie Marc de Ladoucette in Paris in collaboration with the Picasso Administration. Picasso’s image originated as a wash drawing created in November 1959 for the front page of Libération, a newspaper that emerged from the French resistance to the Vichy regime. Vivacious brushstrokes convey the silhouetted forms of the figures with a goat and dove, expressing a spirit of lively creativity in harmony with nature.
