Picasso: The Mediterranean Years (1945–1962)
This poster was produced in 2010, in conjunction with the exhibition Picasso: The Mediterranean Years (1945–1962) at Gagosian, Britannia Street, London. Curated by John Richardson and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, the exhibition focused on the postwar years in which Picasso began to spend more time in the South of France, marking a return to the Mediterranean heritage that had nourished some of his most important stylistic changes. The poster features a black-and-white photograph of Picasso with Petite fille sautant à la corde (1950), which was sculpted and assembled from found objects, while in progress at his studio Le Fournas, Vallauris. Made the year after the birth of his daughter Paloma, Petite fille sautant à la corde represents a young girl jumping rope.
