Picasso: Tête-à-tête
This poster featuring Petite fille sautant à la corde (1950) was produced in 2025, in conjunction with Picasso: Tête-à-tête at Gagosian, 980 Madison Avenue, New York. Presented in partnership with the artist’s daughter Paloma Picasso, the exhibition featured over fifty rarely seen paintings, sculptures, and drawings from the full span of the artist’s career—1896 to 1972—drawn largely from his estate.
Made the year after Paloma’s birth, Petite fille sautant à la corde represents a young girl jumping rope. Cast in bronze and measuring over five feet tall, the original figure was ingeniously composed of modeled plaster forms and a variety of found objects, including a wicker basket, pieces of ceramic, a cake pan, and shoes. With a stylized, masklike face and ill-fitting shoes, she is perpetually suspended over the sculpture’s base, which is enlivened by the forms of a flower and a snake.
