John Currin “Flora” Beach Towel
This brushed-cotton beach towel, printed with a reproduction of John Currin’s painting Flora (2010), portrays a reclining female figure with baskets of brightly colored fruit—“inspired by the various Floras from art history, from Botticelli to Poussin to Rembrandt,” explains the artist. Part of the Works on Whatever (WOW) series of artist-designed functional objects, the towel was produced by Art Production Fund, in partnership with Kohler, to benefit the nonprofit’s public art projects and launched at the Delano Hotel during Art Basel Miami Beach in 2016. Since its inception in 2007, the series has featured artists including Karen Kilimnik, Glenn Ligon, Ryan McGinley, James Rosenquist, and Laurie Simmons, among others.
