Jonas Wood
Part of Phaidon’s Contemporary Artists series, this book—the first monograph on the work of Jonas Wood—offers a comprehensive look at the Los Angeles–based artist’s output from 2006 through 2019. With subjects that range from landscapes and domestic interiors to sports, houseplants, animals, and family members, Wood has developed a representational style that emphasizes an idiosyncratic approach to pictorial space, pattern, and color.
In addition to over two hundred illustrations, the volume features an essay by Helen Molesworth that surveys Wood’s work, situating it within art history and contemporary life, as well as a text by Ian Alteveer that unpacks some of his references. It also includes an interview between Wood and artist Mark Grotjahn discussing studio practice. Following a dedicated section of photography of the artist’s studio, extracts of three conversations—between Wood and Corrina Peipon (2010), Katy Donoghue (2017), and Jeong Yun Hyeong (2017)—let the reader hear directly from the artist at different points in his career.
