Jonas Wood: C.M.Z. House on M.V. with Ptolemy
Made in 2021, Jonas Wood’s etching C.M.Z. House on M.V. with Ptolemy depicts a cat standing on a path that passes through a wildflower meadow in front of a house. The lushly detailed image is related to the artist’s 2021 oil-and-acrylic painting of the same title. Employing repeated mark making and patterning to develop its composition, Wood made the print using a soft-ground technique, in which a soft, sticky ground allows the trace of the artist’s hand to be directly recorded on the plate’s surface before being etched.Once the soft-ground plate was complete, aquatint was added to the print to introduce subtle background tones.
