Takashi Murakami × Virgil Abloh: Glance past the future
Glance past the future is a screenprint created by Takashi Murakami and Virgil Abloh based on an acrylic-on-canvas painting of the same name from 2018. It transforms Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s 1623 self-portrait by superimposing Murakami’s character Mr. DOB on top to effect a graphic blur of pink and black, like a dilapidated street poster leaving behind traces of an art historical lineage. The duo’s ironic and insouciant artistic gestures are designed to disrupt the divisions and tiers of stratified cultural production.
