Takashi Murakami: Camo-Skull Skateboard Deck
This screenprinted skateboard deck by Takashi Murakami features skull drawings overlaid on a green-and-cream camouflage pattern. An eternal motif in the history of art and popular culture, the skull has been used by Murakami throughout his career as a reminder of the ephemerality of life and the inexorable passing of time. The camouflage recalls the artist’s early Polyrhythm works, which explore the complex relationship between Japan and the United States that emerged in the aftermath of World War II.
The decks are intended for decorative purposes, but can be assembled into functioning skateboards.
