Takashi Murakami: School Entrance Ceremony
School Entrance Ceremony is a limited-edition print featuring Takashi Murakami’s distinctive multicolored smiling flower motif, which first appeared in his practice in 1995. A graphic floral outline is filled with multiple smaller versions of the same design in a variety of bright color combinations. The resultant image resonates with Murakami’s renowned “Superflat” aesthetic, in which he combines classical Japanese painting techniques with contemporary popular imagery on a flat picture plane, often also making use of graphic devices from the interconnected cultures of anime, manga, otaku, and kawaii.
