Jonas Wood: Bonsai
Bonsai is a thirteen-color screen print by Jonas Wood, one of three (along with Bananas and Bromeliad) he produced to raise funds for Printed Matter, New York. He composed these “plant identification prints” to match the format of a classic Polaroid photograph. “I really enjoyed the repetition of this series,” Wood noted. “It was a fun challenge to work in the same format but change the subject matter for each installment, something I think I do a lot in my work.” Published by Aliso Editions and WKS Editions, both based in Los Angeles, Bonsai features a botanical motif that has become one of the artist’s recurring subjects. Exploring effects of color, varied pattern, and flattened space, Wood pursues innovations within the traditional processes of printmaking while developing his own personal iconography.
