This tote bag features details from Jean-Michel Basquiat’s painting Mitchell Crew (1983), which pays homage to traditional symbols of African art in the artist’s dynamic contemporary style. Basquiat rendered ten unique African masks with strokes of acrylic and oil stick in gestures reminiscent of graffiti. The handwritten phrases MIDDLE KINGDOM and NEKHBET evoke Egyptian history and mythology. The bag is made from water-resistant, recycled-polyester taffeta, can hold up to 44 pounds, and folds into a small zippered pouch.
