The Kitchen × Études Studio Mars T-shirt
This relaxed fit organic cotton T-shirt was produced by the Parisian brand Études Studio in collaboration with The Kitchen—one of New York’s oldest nonprofit alternative arts centers—as part of a special capsule collection. An homage to several incandescent performances held at The Kitchen by artists including Robert Longo (Surrender, 1979), Timothy Buckley (Barn Fever, 1983), Charles Atlas (We Interrupt This Program, 1991), and William Basinski (Life on Mars, 1997), the printed design on the back of the shirt juxtaposes text and imagery to recall New York’s avant-garde. The word “Surrender” and a small “É” are embroidered on the front.
The variety of artists represented in the capsule collection reflects the collaborative spirit of Études Studio and the multidisciplinary nature of The Kitchen. With a predominantly black and white palette, enhanced by touches of yellow, the collection features archival images from the institution’s long history. A portion of the proceeds from sales will support artistic innovation at The Kitchen.
