Basquiat × Warhol: Painting Four Hands
This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Basquiat × Warhol: Painting Four Hands at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris. Between 1984 and 1985, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol collaborated to make around 160 paintings. This exhibition featured eighty of the canvases they created jointly, together with additional works produced individually by the artists and their contemporaries, including Francesco Clemente, Keith Haring, Jenny Holzer, among others. The comprehensive catalogue documents Warhol’s and Basquiat’s work together with reproductions of exhibited paintings and archival materials, as well as an expansive range of essays and interviews offering varied interpretations of their collaborative practice. It includes a foreword by Bernard Arnault; a preface by Suzanne Pagé; texts by Jessica Beck, Dieter Buchhart, Bruno Bischofberger, Valentina Frutig, Keith Haring, Olivier Michelon, Jordana Moore Saggese, and Gwendolyn Dubois Shaw; interviews by Buchhart with Bischofberger, Clemente, Paige Powell, and Jay Shriver; interviews with Nick Rhodes and Michael Halsband by Buchhart and Anna Karina Hofbauer; an interview with Tony Shafrazi by Carlo McCormick; an interview with Lisane Basquiat and Jeanine Heriveaux by Sophia Loren Heriveaux; and a chronology compiled by Antonio Rosa de Pauli.
