Andy Warhol: Flowers Skateboard Decks
The Skateroom has collaborated with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to create this set of three screenprinted skateboard decks featuring Warhol’s iconic Flowers series. The 1964 acrylic-and-silkscreen canvas on which it is based was itself derived from photographer Patricia Caulfield’s shot of hibiscus blossoms, which Warhol appropriated from an issue of Modern Photography magazine. His use of cropping, distortion, and vibrant color lends the blooms a characteristically bold, graphic effect that resonates with the aesthetic of 1960s advertising and runs counter to the gestural emphasis of Abstract Expressionism.
The decks are intended for decorative purposes, but can be assembled into functioning skateboards. One wall mount per deck is provided to hang the edition on the wall.
