The Kitchen × Études Studio History T-shirt
This relaxed fit organic cotton T-shirt was produced by the Parisian brand Études Studio in collaboration with The Kitchen—one of New York’s oldest nonprofit alternative arts centers—as part of a special capsule collection. The front is screenprinted with text from the program for the 1989 concert “History of Unheard Music,” which featured three solo works by Yasunao Tone. The back is screenprinted with a photograph of some of the fifteen dancers featured in the 1979 performance Hero, choreographed by Mary Overlie and partially scored by Laurie Anderson. A small “É” is embroidered on the bottom left front of the shirt.
The variety of artists represented in the capsule collection reflects the collaborative spirit of Études Studio and the multidisciplinary nature of The Kitchen. With a predominantly black and white palette, enhanced by touches of yellow, the collection features archival images from the institution’s long history. A portion of the proceeds from sales will support artistic innovation at The Kitchen.
