Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol: 6.99 (Nude) Plate
Produced by Ligne Blanche in Paris, this Limoges porcelain plate features a detail from Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol’s collaborative painting 6.99 (1985), one of approximately 160 works that the artists worked on together between 1984 and 1985. Here, a female nude dominates the composition, and football players, African masks, and copyright symbols occupy the background. 6.99 is overpainted with broad strokes of white and bold crisscrossing lines that perhaps allude to Warhol’s scars from surgery following his 1968 assault.
