Douglas Gordon: Non-Stop T-shirt
The graphic on Douglas Gordon’s limited-edition apparel line is taken from the title of his 2018 film Non-Stop and influenced by the neon lettering used on album covers by the British synth-pop band Soft Cell. Gordon was commissioned by the Crossrail Art Programme to make the film for the Tottenham Court Road station of London’s new Elizabeth railway line. Inspired by the neon signs he regards as “the DNA of Soho,” the station’s surrounding neighborhood, Gordon filmed his own eye slowly opening and closing, while its retina reflects a series of words extracted from local signs, names, and places since the postwar era.
