This poster featuring Untitled (Sunset) (1982) was produced in 2023, in conjunction with Richard Prince: Early Photography, 1977–87 at Gagosian, Grosvenor Hill, London. The exhibition featured many of Prince’s iconic cowboy, girlfriend, and advertisement photographs and illuminated the process of “rephotography” that the artist adopted in 1977. Appropriating images from lifestyle magazines and advertising, Prince redefined the concepts of authorship and originality. Untitled (Sunset) depicts a young boy and a clown puppet in low-resolution black and white against a red-orange backdrop that evokes the close of day.
