Pablo Picasso by Christian Zervos, Volumes I–XXXIII
This is an original edition of Pablo Picasso’s monumental catalogue raisonné, published by Cahiers d’Art founder Christian Zervos in partnership with the artist himself, and the definitive reference on its renowned and influential subject. A unique milestone in art book publishing, the thirty-three-volume set reproduces more than sixteen thousand paintings and drawings.
Volume I of “Zervos,” as it is commonly known, was first published by Cahiers d’Art in 1932, and the last volume was printed in 1978, following the deaths of both its author and its subject. Following Zervos’s passing, Cahiers d’Art was taken over by his brother, and the catalogue became hard to find, with original versions fetching up to $200,000 at auction. In 2012, Cahiers d’Art was taken over by Staffan Ahrenberg and a reprint appeared in 2014. This scarce original edition, which is uniformly bound in thirty-four volumes (Volume II is issued as a two-volume set), features the original wrappers bound-in and is in fine condition.
