Andy Warhol
This small, square exhibition catalogue—now housed in a new custom-made box—was published to accompany an exhibition of Andy Warhol’s Flowers paintings at Galerie Ileana Sonnabend, Paris, in May 1965. This was the second Warhol exhibition at Sonnabend’s gallery, following a presentation the year before of the Death and Disaster series. The publication includes a two-color lithographic reproduction of a Flowers painting on its back inside cover, together with an essay in French by Otto Hahn. John Ashbery reviewed the exhibition for the international edition of the New York Herald Tribune, calling Warhol’s visit to Paris “the biggest transatlantic fuss since Oscar Wilde brought culture to Buffalo in the nineties.”
