Jeff Koons: Balloon Rabbit (Red)
In partnership with Bernardaud, Jeff Koons has created a set of limited-edition porcelain sculptures inspired by Celebration, a series that memorializes the rituals, icons, and images surrounding birthdays, holidays, and other festive occasions. Using the recognizable form of a balloon twisted into the shape of a rabbit, Koons has frozen a moment in time.
Koons has stated the rabbit “comes from my upbringing. I grew up in South Central Pennsylvania, in a rural community, and at special times of the year, people would put things out in their front yards for decoration like reindeer at Christmastime. In the spring, around Easter time, there would be inflatable rabbits.”
