Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crown Baseball Hat
This dark green baseball hat is embroidered with Jean-Michel Basquiat’s iconic crown motif in orange on the front, as well as the artist’s all-caps signature in white along the edge of the right side. First appearing in the artist’s 1981 painting Red Kings, the simple but immediately recognizable graphic image of a three-pronged coronet was used by Basquiat to depict Black men as kings or saints, thereby acknowledging the power and influence of his cultural heroes. Produced by New York–based brand Rome Pays Off, the hat features a stitched curved brim and adjustable buckle strap closure.
