Howard Hodgkin: Ice
Made on the occasion of the 2014 Winter Olympics hosted in Sochi, Russia, this screen print by Howard Hodgkin was created with seventeen colors on Somerset white satin 300gsm paper. Energetically rendered strokes in shades of blue and white capture the explosive yet concentrated physical prowess of the Olympic athlete, as well as the snow and ice emblematic of the winter sporting events. Since 1912, prints and posters have been commissioned by the British Olympic Association for each of the Olympic Games to celebrate the participation of Team GB. Ice was produced by Counter Editions and the price of the print increases as the edition sells out.
