Paesaggio is from a series of green paintings that Twombly made at Bassano in Teverina, Italy, from 1981 through 1986, engaging with the verdant landscape. Exploring the potentials of color, texture, and the liquidity of paint, the layered, atmospheric works abstract elemental meetings of water, earth, and air.
