Cy Twombly: Cycles and Seasons
This book was published on the occasion of Cy Twombly: Cycles and Seasons at Tate Modern, London, a retrospective that traveled to Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Spain, and Galleria Nazionale d’Art Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome. A career survey for Twombly, the exhibition offered a comprehensive overview of his work from the 1950s through his eightieth year. At its heart is Twombly’s exploration of seasonal cycles, nature, and the passage of time.
Edited by Tate director Nicholas Serota, the catalogue reproduces the more than seventy exhibited paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. It contains an opening essay by art historian Richard Shiff, essays and section entries by curator Nicholas Cullinan, “A Panegyric” by artist Tacita Dean, and an interview with Twombly by Serota. An extensive chronology and bibliography provide additional context on Twombly’s career.
