Carsten Höller: Trippelfliegenpilzlampe Weiss (White Triple Fly Agaric Lamp)
In conjunction with the opening of his restaurant Brutalisten in Stockholm in spring 2022, Carsten Höller produced a limited-edition version of Trippelfliegenpilzlampe Weiss (White Triple Fly Agaric Lamp), which he originally designed for the space. This table lamp is a three-dimensional collage composed of slightly enlarged replicas of three wild fly agaric mushrooms, each part representing a different growth stage. The bodies of the mushrooms were cast individually and the gills were attached by hand, making each lamp in the edition unique.
The fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) has been used in sacred rituals and ceremonies for over four thousand years. While highly toxic, the mushroom is revered in folk, underground, and popular cultures for its hallucinogenic qualities, and Höller is fascinated by the idea that it may have played a role in the development of shamanism. His representation of the fly agaric also continues his exploration of doubled and divided forms.
The lamp is wireless and includes a single-contact charging base. The base is USB connected and comes with a separate Type C socket adapter.
