Takashi Murakami: 108 Earthly Temptations
This limited-edition print by Takashi Murakami reproduces his painting 108 Earthly Temptations (2021–22), which features a numbered grid of pixelated icons of flowers bearing a range of facial expressions. Set against a solid pale blue background, the 108 images relate to the artist’s Murakami.Flowers NFT project (2021–22). As indicated by the work’s title, the number 108 corresponds to the Buddhist principle of bonnō, or earthly temptations. Iterations of these images with a variety of different backgrounds and attributes were translated into paintings for the exhibition Takashi Murakami: An Arrow through History at Gagosian, 980 and 976 Madison Avenue, New York.
