Dan Colen: Lover, Lover, Lover
This poster was produced in 2022, in conjunction with Dan Colen: Lover, Lover, Lover—an exhibition of new paintings from the artist’s Mother and Woodworker series—at Gagosian, West 21st Street, New York. Colen designed the poster with his friend, graphic designer Soba Eshima.
Lover, Lover, Lover borrows its title from a song by Leonard Cohen written during a visit to his ancestral homeland of Israel during the Yom Kippur War. The works in the exhibition, like the illustrations in the poster design, explore the complex relationships both Cohen and Colen, like so many of us, have with our homes and narratives of promised lands—concepts and physical places that can evoke wide-ranging feelings, from comfort to conflict and security to trauma, and everything in between.
