Damien Hirst: Spot Tea Towel
Produced by Other Criteria, this tea towel features brightly colored spots from Damien Hirst’s most widely recognized series, the Spot paintings. In these works, Hirst has removed any physical evidence of human intervention—such as the compass point left at the center of each spot—so that the works appear to have been constructed mechanically or “by a person trying to paint like a machine.”
In 2012 Gagosian exhibited over three hundred Spot paintings across eleven gallery spaces worldwide. Conceived of as a single exhibition, The Complete Spot Paintings 1986–2011 fulfilled Hirst’s long-standing ambition to show the works together.
