Damien Hirst: Hazard Pictures & Emergency Paintings
This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Damien Hirst: Emergency Paintings, Danger Paintings, Hazard Pictures and Seizures at Gagosian, Britannia Street, London, the third phase of Hirst’s twenty-one-month takeover of the space. The Hazard Pictures reproduce seventy-five smartphone photographs taken by Hirst of the high-visibility stripes, chevrons, and other graphics emblazoned on emergency vehicles spotted on the road, and their use of color and shape as warning signs. These photos inspired the Emergency Paintings (2014–16) series, eighty-eight of which also reproduced in the book as an illustrated list.
