Cy Twombly: Homes & Studios

Regular price Regular price $70

This book brings together photographs taken of Cy Twombly’s studios and houses in New York; Lexington, Virginia; and Rome, Basso in Teverina, and Gaeta, Italy between 1954 and 2012, a period of almost sixty years. In 136 striking color and black-and-white shots by fifteen prominent artists and photographers including Tacita Dean, Mario Dondero, Sally Mann, Ugo Mulas, Deborah Turbeville, and Bruce Weber—as well as by Twombly himself—the pictured locations are revealed as unique repositories of art, antiques, and furniture, and as sanctuaries for their late resident’s creative expression.

The publication, which was compiled and edited by Lothar Schirmer, features an account of the featured locations by Twombly’s longtime collaborator Nicola Del Roscio and an essay by German art writer Florian Illies that traces the artist’s relationship with the art and literature of classical antiquity through the photographs that Horst P. Horst took for American Vogue in 1965.
