Vera Lutter: Egypt
This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Vera Lutter: Egypt at Gagosian, Davies Street, London.
In 2010, Lutter traveled to Egypt to document its ancient architecture, including the Bent Pyramid, the Meidum Pyramid, and the Great Sphinx of Giza. She captured images of these sites using an empty suitcase transformed into a covert camera obscura, lined with photosensitive paper. Each of the resulting photographs conforms to the dimensions of the improvised device, producing a scale that is much more intimate than in previous series.
The volume features twenty works from the series, as well as a text by Lutter on her experience making the photographs.
