Rudolf Stingel
This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Rudolf Stingel at Gagosian, 555 West 24th Street, New York. The volume brings together several series, including self-portraits, carpet paintings, and gold paintings. Based on a photograph of himself as a young man, Stingel’s photorealistic portraits point to the repetition and meditation involved in nostalgic remembering. The carpet paintings feature a ghostly pattern rendered in silver paint, while the gold canvases—with their stains, shadows, imprints, and scratches—bring back the aggressiveness of Stingel’s working process in the studio. The publication features a text by Francesco Bonami.
