Roy Lichtenstein: Sweet Dreams Baby!
This striking poster, which illustrates Roy Lichtenstein’s screen print Sweet Dreams Baby! (1965), was produced to advertise exhibitions of the three-volume print portfolio 11 Pop Artists that were staged in various European galleries in 1966 to garner greater international attention for what was then the primarily American movement of Pop art. This copy of the poster is unusual in lacking the informational text about the exhibition venue that was added to most copies. Sweet Dreams Baby! was one of Lichtenstein’s first true Pop prints, featuring the bold colors, Benday dots, and comic-strip action that characterize his best-known work.
