Richard Serra: Transmitter
This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Richard Serra: Transmitter at Gagosian, Le Bourget. Made of weatherproof steel, Transmitter (2020) measures 4 meters in height, 17.7 meters in width, and 18.2 meters in length, and was installed in the gallery’s vast main exhibition space, which was formerly an airplane hangar.
Alongside extensive photography of the sculpture, reproduced in black and white, the bilingual (English/French) publication features a new text by art historian Maria Stavrinaki that tracks Serra’s long sculptural practice through three formal, temporal, and political moments. It also includes reproductions of fourteen works on paper made by the artist in 2021.
