Jennifer Guidi: And so it is.
This book was published on the occasion of Jennifer Guidi: And so it is. at the Orange County Museum of Art in Costa Mesa, California, the artist’s first solo institutional exhibition in the United States. Curated by Heidi Zuckerman, the museum’s CEO and director, it surveyed Guidi’s work from the past decade and also featured new paintings.
Suffused with allusions to spirituality, Guidi’s paintings draw on symbols and techniques originating in Eastern traditions to usher viewers into heightened states of being. In mandala-like compositions that incorporate sand applied directly to the surface of still-wet painted canvas, she generates immersive meditative spaces in which perceptual boundaries dissolve. Focusing on the significance of place, especially evident within the artist’s use of radiant colors associated with her native California, the exhibition detailed a practice that reaches beyond our immediate surroundings into a metaphysical realm.
The publication includes color reproductions of sixty works as well as details and installation photography. It also features “It’s a Constant Letting Go,” an in-depth conversation between Guidi and Zuckerman that offers firsthand insights into the artist’s influences, development, and unique process.
