Gilbert & George: Winter Flowers Plate
Produced by Ligne Blanche in Paris, this Limoges porcelain plate features a detail of Gilbert & George’s print Winter Flowers (1982). In the work, red-tinted photographic images of the artists are surrounded by flowers. George appears in horizontal profile at the bottom of the composition while Gilbert hovers above him, head in hand. The two likenesses are superimposed on a black-and-white shot of an urban park or playground in the snow. The plate is part of a series of Ligne Blanche products featuring artwork from the 1980s and ’90s by the British collaborative duo that reflects their interest in religion through its reference to stained-glass windows.
