Edward Ruscha: Cityscapes / O Books
Signed by the artist on the title page, this small-format book was produced on the occasion of Ed Ruscha’s 1997 exhibition Cityscapes / O Books at Leo Castelli Gallery in New York, as well as the twenty-fifth anniversary of Ruscha’s working relationship with the gallery. Housed in a clamshell box, the softcover catalogue reproduces seventeen of Ruscha’s Cityscape paintings, which feature short texts redolent of hard-boiled crime drama that have been redacted to produce bold abstract compositions, along with covers of twenty books marked by the artist with either bleach or paint to reveal the letter O.
