Ed Ruscha: Dead End 3
Derived from a maquette of an aluminum “Dead End” notice that Ed Ruscha painted for his desert property near Joshua Tree National Park, this print belongs to one of three editions from the Rusty Signs series. It was produced by the Los Angeles–based workshop Mixografia using a proprietary process for printing high-relief works they first developed in the 1970s. Printing on wet, handmade paper yields the mottled surface evocative of a weathered sign, and hand-cut openings and “bullet holes” accentuate the realistic effects.
