Ed Ruscha: An Archive of Projects
This volume documents “other stuff” produced by Ed Ruscha over a sixty-year period, including layouts for books, exhibition catalogues, magazines, album covers, and posters; large-scale projects such as Chocolate Room (1970) and an installation for the Federal Building in San Francisco; film and video work; early cartoons; painted book covers; a series of Contour Gauge Profiles of family and friends, made using a device for recording the cross-sectional shape of a surface; and various ephemera. Featuring an original drawing specially created by Ruscha on its cover, the book contains essays by Robert Dean, its editor, and historians Michael Friend and David Platzker, as well as a preface by fellow artist Allen Ruppersberg.
