Cy Twombly: Photographs
This book was published on the occasion of the exhibition Cy Twombly: Photographs at Gagosian, Beverly Hills. Shown in conjunction with the artist’s final series of paintings, the presentation of nearly a hundred photographs—which subsequently traveled to London and New York—ranges from studio impressions made in 1950s New York to landscapes taken in St. Barts in 2011. Depicting natural subjects and views of studios, domestic spaces, and sculptures, Twombly’s photographs emphasize the impact of color and deliberate composition. This fully illustrated volume includes all exhibited works and the essay “Cy Twombly: A Kind of Aura,” in which artist Edmund de Waal reflects on the ways in which the photographs shape memory.
