Nam June Paik: The Late Style
This book was published on the occasion of Nam June Paik: The Late Style at Gagosian, Hong Kong, the first exhibition of the artist’s work in Hong Kong. It features video sculptures, paintings, and drawings produced during the last decade of Paik’s life, many of which have never previously been exhibited, alongside key works from the 1960s through the 1980s. The exhibition and publication testify to the artist’s lifelong exploration of the role of technology in culture, including the dissemination of infinite images via television.
The bilingual (English/Chinese) publication includes an essay by curator John G. Hanhardt as well as numerous color illustrations and extensive documentation of Paik’s life and work. It also features a selected exhibition history and bibliography, and a facsimile of one of Paik’s notebooks from 1984.
