Jim Shaw: The Wig Museum
This book was published on the occasion of Jim Shaw: The Wig Museum, the inaugural exhibition at the Marciano Art Foundation, Los Angeles. The site-specific exhibition presented paintings, drawings, and sculptural installations by Shaw that incorporate artifacts including wigs, regalia, and hand-painted theatrical backdrops found during the conversion of the building, which was formerly a Scottish Rite Masonic Temple.
The catalogue features photographs of Shaw’s installation, an essay by Doug Harvey that explores the narratives and iconographic subtexts of the exhibition, and a conversation between Shaw and Philipp Kaiser that further illuminates the work.
