Christopher Wool: Untitled B
This two-color intaglio print by Christopher Wool hints at the breadth of the artist’s visual and material strategies. Wool’s approach has evolved over time, as he explores the effects of repetition, layering, and erasure on abstract pattern and stenciled text. By reusing and reworking images and gestures from previous compositions, he creates something new each time, in this instance layering an irregular flower-like linear pattern atop roughly ovoid fields of gray and brown. The improvised marks of Untitled B echo the cursive lines and expressive gestures that characterize Wool’s paintings and sculptures.
