Henri Matisse & Jonas Wood
This book was published on the occasion of Henri Matisse & Jonas Wood at Tarmak22 at the Gstaad Saanen Airport, Switzerland, an exhibition organized by Nahmad Contemporary. Pairing modernist works by Matisse with contemporary works by Wood, the exhibition illuminated the unities of form and theme across their respective oeuvres. Both artists extract subjects from everyday life and scenes of domestic leisure, balancing representation and abstraction to create vibrant images. The volume is fully illustrated with plates and details of the exhibited works and features an essay by art historian Helen Molesworth that addresses Matisse’s and Wood’s shared affinities and examines how Wood has mined the history of painting in his work.
