Harold Ancart: Soft Places
In his atmospheric images and objects, Harold Ancart manipulates color and texture, allowing the operation of chance to inflect a distinctive style of painterly application and blur the boundary between observation and imagination. Combining figurative and abstract passages, his paintings and drawings explore the natural landscape and the built environment, transcending simple representation to reveal moments of unexpected poetry in otherwise familiar surroundings.
Harold Ancart: Soft Places reproduces over 140 selected works on paper that Ancart produced between 2009 and 2015, as well as a short text by the artist sparked by the traumatic experience of losing a suitcase filled with personal and artistic valuables. Published by Triangle Books, the book presents Ancart’s first semiabstract and monochromatic drawings alongside his colorful neo-psychedelic landscapes.
